Disney´s cinematographic and audiovisual products are characterized and considered significant due to their extensive media presence since the company’s inception in the early twentieth century. To maintain a consistent viewership throughout the different contextual moments Disney has gone through, the company produces live-action films based on its classic animated cinema. This study critically and cinematically analyzes the first of these productions, namely 101 Dalmatians (1996). Specifically, utilizing the technique of artistic research through the visual essay, it sheds light on the distinct Manichean features of the antagonistic character, Cruella, and highlights the prominent visual motifs that shape her aesthetic portrayal in the film.
