Este artículo presenta resultados de un estudio cuantitativo, descriptivo y exploratorio sobre la distribución de la cantidad de tiempo destinada a la práctica deportiva en la población colombiana. Tiene como objetivo observar las variaciones en el tiempo de práctica deportiva de acuerdo con las variables sexo, estrato socioeconómico y grupo etáreo, y su sustento empírico se encuentra en la información contenida en la Encuesta Nacional de Uso del Tiempo (ENUT, 2016-2017). El texto está dividido en tres partes: en la primera se discuten algunas nociones cuya función es enmarcar la descripción general, así como orientar la definición y construcción de variables, más que proporcionar un marco interpretativo de los resultados; allí se desarrollan las ideas de tiempo libre, ocio y tiempo disponible. En la segunda parte se explica la metodología, las variables utilizadas y las técnicas descriptivas de análisis estadístico. Finalmente, en el último apartado se desarrolla la descripción del tiempo de práctica deportiva con la información de la ENUT.

This paper presents results of a quantitative, descriptive and exploratory study on the distribution of the amount of time devoted to sports practice in the Colombian population. It is based on the information contained in the National Time Use Survey (ENUT, 2016-2017) and its objective is to observe the variations in the time spent practicing sports according to the variables Sex, Socioeconomic stratum and Age group. The text is divided into three parts. The first part discusses some notions whose function is to frame the general description and the definition and construction of variables, rather than to provide an interpretative framework for the results. It develops the ideas of free time, leisure and available time. In the second part, the methodology is explained: the variables used and the descriptive techniques of statistical analysis. Finally, the last part develops the description of the time spent practicing sports with the information from the ENUT.
