Abstract

The collection, storage and treatment of Used Vegetable Oils (hereinafter UVO), is currently regulated in Bogotá D.C., by Agreement 634 of 2015, which aims to regulate the management of UVO, comprising the stages of generation, collection, transportation, storage, treatment or appropriate use for the business sector. The UVO waste generates negative environmental impacts when an inadequate final disposal is carried out, with effects such as contamination of water, soil and on public health (Castillo, 2020).  In 2018, the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MADS) issues Resolution 0316, which aims to establish actions for the proper management of Used Cooking Oils (hereinafter UCO) in Colombia, applied to producers, distributors and marketers of Edible Vegetable Oils (AVC, hereinafter), generators (industrial, commercial and services) and managers of UCO.

The current District regulations only briefly describe the guidelines to be followed by domestic generators and only mention that the obligations for these household producers of the UVO is the collection in a plastic container duly sealed to be delivered in clean points established by the UVO business managers (Ac. 634/15).

The purpose of this study is to explore the regulations in force in the Capital District (DC) related to the guidelines in the management and final disposal of the USW in the capital's households; some strategies established by the District Secretariat of Environment (DSE) and companies that manage USW will be examined, so that citizens dispose in an adequate manner the USW waste, in order to reduce the negative environmental impacts generated by its inadequate management and disposal, identifying the related regulatory criteria. Recognizing the insufficient information and promotion of strategies for residential producers to minimize pollutant loads in the household sewage system. Likewise, a brief description will be given of the use given to the MSW focused on the circular economy; and appropriate disposal of MSW.
