Environmental competitiveness is an integrated system which is made up of two essential components (competitiveness and environmental management), which seek sustainable development, outstanding competence and strategic growth of different entities or organizations. For this reason, the nature of the word competitiveness was thoroughly investigated, based on this aspect on the father of said connotation.
Subsequently, it was possible to originate an added value to this definition, thus creating; the possibility of finding the path towards economic and environmentally friendly improvement.
Based on this, this article aims to generate a consistent definition of the term environmental competitiveness, based mainly on the particular knowledge of each component, approaching in this sense a sustainable transformation characteristic of companies, organizations and enterprises.
In conclusion, the structure of competitiveness proposed by Porter makes considerable contributions to companies and their performance in the market; However, this does not guarantee its stability and sustainable development, because said structure lacks the component of environmental management, which is why it is possible to demonstrate that the latter is an indispensable part when it comes to generating sustainable business development.
