Colombia ha sido señalada en varias oportunidades como la democracia más antigua de América Latina pero a la vez como uno de los países más violentos del mundo. Estas afirmaciones provocan ciertos resquemores pero también muchos cuestionamientos sobre el tipo de régimen y cultura política que se ha construido desde los albores de la república.
