Abstract (es_ES)

En la actualidad existen diversas técnicas diferentes a las convencionales, que permiten modificar propiedades físicas de gemas preciosas. Dichas técnicas, requieren de procedimientos que involucran elementos de alta tecnología, tales como fuentes intensas de irradiación gamma, aceleradores de electrones y reactores nucleares. La irradiación de topacios y zafiros, utilizando radiación gamma, aceleradores y reactores nucleares, han sido objeto de investigaciones durante la última década. En este artículo se presentan resultados de investigaciones recientes adelantadas con esmeraldas colombianas, que han sido irradiadas con neutrones en un reactor nuclear de Investigación.

Abstract (en_US)

Actually there are several methods which are different to traditionally established, which can modify physical properties to gem stones. These techniques require procedure which need equipment of high technology such as gamma sources with high level of irradiation, accelerators of electrons and nuclear reactors. Recently some laboratories in the world have been researched different kind of gems. This paper shows some results of recently researches using Columbian emeralds, which have been irradiated with neutrons into a nuclear research reactor.
