Communities and memory processes in school drama
This article examines the early stages of the research project “Integrating Drama and Historical Memory in a Colombian School: A Community of Memory and Drama in the Classroom”, held at the Montessori Normal District School in Bogotá, Colombia. Students in 10th grade Drama class explored the pedagogical significance of collective memory and unofficial history through remembrance practices mediated by dramatic tools within a school context. We analyze the constitution of communities of memory in the classroom and the unearthing of forgotten memories (in this case the story of Manuel Saturio Valencia, one of the last Colombians executed by the state in 1907). This drama-remembrance project also questions the role of teachers and the pedagogical conceptions and practices of theater as employed in education.Descargas
