External Integration on Agri-Food Supply Chain: A review to the state of the art

Abstract (es_ES)

La Integración de la Cadena de Suministro (ICS) ha sido un tema ampliamente abordado debido a su importancia estratégica; no obstante, existen pocos estudios de integración en cadenas agroindustriales. El propósito de este artículo es hacer una revisión de la ICS, enfocándose en el impacto de mecanismos de integración externa sobre el desempeño de las cadenas agroindustriales. Los resultados muestran que los mecanismos de integración externa más utilizados han sido el intercambio de información y la toma de decisiones conjunta, mientras que las medidas de desempeño usadas con mayor frecuencia han sido los costos, la utilidad, el rendimiento de la inversión y los niveles de inventario. La revisión identifica la necesidad de evaluar el impacto de varios mecanismos de manera simultánea en el desempeño de la Cadena de Suministro (CS), enfatizando la importancia de hacer investigación en mecanismos de integración de toma de decisiones conjunta, como el inventario administrado por el vendedor (VMI) y la planeación colaborativa, pronóstico y reabastecimiento (CPFR). En cuanto a la medición del desempeño, se requiere la inclusión de al menos un indicador por categoría (eficiencia, flexibilidad, capacidad de respuesta y calidad de los alimentos) del marco de desempeño descrito para cadenas agroindustriales; mientras que para la medición de desempeño logístico de cadenas agroindustriales se requiere mayor investigación en los modos (procesos de gestión) y medios (recursos) logísticos.

Supply Chain Integration (SCI) has been broadly taken into account due to its strategic importance; however, there are a few agri food supply chain studies. The purpose of this paper is to review the SCI focused on the external integration mechanisms impact on agri food supply chain performance. The results shows that external integration mechanisms most used have been information sharing and joint decision making, while efficiency has been frequently used as a performance indicators. The review identifies the need to assess several external integration mechanisms simultaneously on Supply Chain performance emphasizes on the importance to research in joint decision making mechanism, such as Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) and Collaborative planning, forecasting, and replenishment (CPFR). For performance measurement, it is needed to include at least one indicator for each category (Efficiency, Flexibility, Responsiveness and Food Quality) of the Agri Food Supply Chain performance framework described, whereas for measuring Agri Food logistics performance is required further research on modes (process management) and means (resources) logistics.
